Welcome to PLASMA

Welcome to the weird, action-packed world of PLASMA, a new science-fantasy adventure from producers Jason Hite and Brock DeShane.

Combining live actors with state of the art stop-motion animation, PLASMA explores a future Earth ruled by biomechanical vampires. Awakened from a thousand years of cryogenic sleep, the last man and woman search for each other across an ocean of blood, and in the ancient ruins of the world they once knew. Along the way, they must face a legion of hell-spawned monsters in a quest to save their love… and the human race.

PLASMA has its origins in a stop-motion short made by Hite in 2005. Titled STASIS, the film traveled to numerous festivals, including Slamdance, Monsterpalooza and Comic-Con. In the process, it won awards, produced a comic book spin-off, and garnered the attention of Clive Barker and Filmthreat.com, who found it “reminiscent of METROPOLIS and H.R. Giger.” All along, Jason continued to sketch new characters, create stop-motion puppets, and script new scenarios based on the short.

Four years later, Jason met Brock DeShane, another writer/filmmaker with a passion for stop-motion, sci-fi, and monsters. Brock and Jason have now teamed up to create PLASMA, a full-length, transmedia project inspired by STASIS.

Join them on this blog for the making of PLASMA, a dark tale of sexy heroes, twisted technology, and demons from a futuristic underworld!

PLASMA Producer Bios

JASON HITE began his career as an artist at the age of four. "Drawing, painting and sculpture have always been my thing, he says. Anything I can get my hands on is material for another art piece.” After receiving a degree in industrial design from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Jason’s fascination with filmmaking led him to the West Coast. Hollywood wasn't as fun or glamorous as he imagined, however, so after one year he relocated to San Diego, where he’s been a Halloween costume designer and sculptor for more than twelve years. Jason has created product design for numerous companies, including Hasbro, Marvel, and Disney. Recently, he began a creative collaboration with artist and writer Clive Barker.

BROCK DESHANE has been a filmmaker since childhood. He studied with Stan Brakhage and Ray Harryhausen while attending college, and worked as an actor, animator, writer and film festival director after graduation. This led to a job at Starz Entertainment, where he developed network programming like the award-winning documentary, IMAGES OF INDIANS: HOW HOLLYWOOD STEREOTYPED THE NATIVE AMERICAN. In 2006, he wrote and produced The Criterion Collection’s acclaimed DVD retrospective of the stop-motion creature feature, EQUINOX. His recent work as a screenwriter/director includes a cross-platform ad campaign for Vampire Vineyards and the upcoming feature film, STOP-MOTION (2011).
